Many private payors and managed care plans cover MNT and DSMT for people with diabetes, although benefits under these plans vary considerably. As of 2003, 46 states and the District of Columbia have enacted laws that require health insurance policies and managed care plans to provide coverage for DSMT and supplies for people with diabetes.9
